Happy Mother's Day

First of all, I want to say Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing mother's out there! I know it's a difficult job and I haven't had the privilege to be one, but I give props to all you mama's out there. I have 4 nephews under 6 years old and let me tell you, I don't know where you guys find the energy. LMAO. I am very content being the eccentric aunt. I spoil them, let them sleep over, and then happily give them back to their parents. :)

I am very privileged to have one of those old school mom's. The only job she ever had was right after high school and after she married my dad, she became a homemaker. She was always at home and is an excellent cook and baker. Her hobby is crafting and she loves to make cards. She's very quiet and shy and has those old school values that seem to be going extinct. I am her loudest, youngest, and most opinionated daughter. I think we make quite the pair. LOL. She's stopped scolding me for being so blunt and swearing like a sailor. Not because she believes I shouldn't, but because she finally realizes I'm a lost cause. I remember a friend of mine being in awe of my mom. I didn't understand why until I got older and realized not everyone has a mom like mine. She's that lady who sees the electric company or construction workers and goes home and bakes a couple loaves of banana bread to give to them. She has gifts for every holiday and I'm not talking about Christmas and our birthdays. She gives Valentine's, Easter, and Girls/Boys Day treats. She also knows my siblings anniversary's and always aims to make that special too. She cooks too much when someone comes home to visit and is the quintessential mom. She has 5 kids, only 2 of which are on the island, so she is constantly on the phone with one of the others who lives in the mainland. All of my nieces and nephews love her and FaceTime her incessantly. I mean, why wouldn't they love her? She's great and I'm honored to have her as my mom. I'll be treating her and my dad to lunch at her favorite restaurant (take out of course) and will try to trick her into coming with me to the salon so she can get a pedicure and relax.

I hope you guys have a wonderful weekend celebrating the mom in your life... or one who has passed on. Let's make them proud.

Bitter Secrets Snippet

Here's this weeks snippet:

"You think you can save me, princess?”

“No,” she huffed. “You’re irredeemable.”

He clucked his tongue. “You’re giving up on me?”

“I did that five years ago.”

The softness leeched from his face as he sheathed himself to the hilt, so deep that she raked her nails down his back. He didn't seem to notice. He gripped her by the throat as he leaned down, lips brushing hers as he spoke.

“You’re not allowed to give up on me.”

There's been some interesting developments with Thea this week that have made me think of some things I've never contemplated before. I feel like there's this invisible pendulum swinging from character to character, shedding light on some things, but casting large shadows on others. Just when I feel like we're getting somewhere, something else comes up and I'm like, "Huh. I wonder if...?" And then starts a ton of sketching and considerations. I ended up spending three days researching something that I later realized slowed the story down too much and I had to cut out. That was painful, but necessary. I'm pleased with the results, but mad that I lost that time, but that's part of the process. I'm beginning to fill in the gaps and I can see light at the end of the tunnel! The last scene was very much on my mind this week. I actually started to write it, but there's still too much I don't know, so I went back to my place in the story and am going to continue chronologically and let my brain figure it out by the time we get there... hopefully.

I hope you're having a great week!
